Refugee Stories

Anmar Hani Al Sanaty

new lifeAnmar Hani Al Sanaty is a Christian and a refugee from Mousil, Iraq. He came to Jordan in May 2015 with his father, mother and two sisters. They left their home after paramilitaries scorched it down and threatened them at their home. This family, as many refugees from Mousil, Iraq were displaced and relocated to less troubled parts of their hometown. They fled in desperation to escape violence, chaos, and shortages of food, medicine, and other necessities. It became harder for people to find a safe place to settle because 3,000-6,000 refugees left Mousil, Iraq every day and refugee centers were filled to capacity. They moved from one city to another staying at refugee camps or churches. However, finally, they had to leave Mousil, Iraq to move to Jordan.

The fear of being killed or the thought that his sisters and himself could go to school and not come back home made them make the decision to leave Mousil, Iraq. Now they live in Amman in the country of Jordan. They are being helped by Manara to begin their new life. They moved to Jordan with nothing. They want to feel safe and that’s what they are feeling right now in Jordan. "Life is hard, we are not allowed to work or granted work permits in Jordan but we do feel safe. We are  thankful for Manara and churches who are helping us to begin our lives."

Anmar has a job now working at the Good Book Shop. His friend Maher Hashweh helped him get this job. Since coming to Amman in 2015 Anmar has been one of the volunteers that worked at Jal'ad Camp and the Good Book Shop. Even though the work is hard and hot, he enjoys doing it because he likes being able to help the Syrian and Iraqi refugees. He loves serving and helping because the people at the Jal’ad camp and the children are so happy to receive the help that they are given.

new lifeSandy Bahjat Loueis

Sandy is a refugee from Iraq, is 21 years old and is married with one child (Jessy is one and a half years old).

Iraq is hopeless because of terrorist groups that kill women and children. Women are taken hostage and we cannot go to church because of the dangerous security situation. We are not allowed to work or granted work permits in Jordan but we do feel safe. We are thankful for Manara International team who is helping us to begin our lives. We are facing many problems and we need help.

Athra’a Yashou Naser

new lifeAthra'a is married and is a refugee from Iraq, arriving in Amman on 1st March 2016.

We have come out of Iraq because of the difficult living conditions and the entry of terrorist groups into our area. We are asking for help from international bodies and organizations to get safety and live in peace. We are not allowed to work or granted work permits in Jordan but we do feel safe. We are thankful for Manara International team who is helping us to begin our lives.
