Trip to Erbil

Isam’s March trip to Erbil was an eye opening experience as he witnessed the difficult situation most families are living in. The level of stress and worry is high and on the rise. Parents are unable to provide for their children’s basic needs of food, water, clothes and education.

It appears the world has forgotten about them, and their conditions keep worsening. Many of the organizations that opened to help them have left the country leaving them to fend for themselves.

difficult lifeEven the nuns who have been working hard to care for the refugees have felt stress and the pressure of the situation. It was terribly sad to hear the news that some of the nuns have passed
away from the difficulty of the situation. The desperation of the people around them, the sadness and worry they face every day have taken a toll on them.

On his visit, Isam was able to visit a school and see how children live daily. The school has divided the students into two groups of approximately 750 each, divided into morning and evening shifts. These students are refugees from other parts of Iraq who are eager to learn and study but their situation does not help. Many of them do not have enough food to eat which reflects on their energy levels. As you enter the classes, all you see are pale faces, one after the other.

Most of the students live in refugee camps, unsuitable for anyone to live in; with only three bathrooms for a camp of 450 people.

Distributions in Jordan

During the month of March, Manara International was able to hold four distribution events for refugees in Jordan. We were able to provide a total of 1,400 hot meals, 700 food packages and 250 hygiene packages to the families who attended.

We also have been working on distributing the second container of medical supplies to hospitals. The hospitals who receive the medical equipment are in turn responsible for helping refugees with little or no charge.

Studio Apartments

Thank you for your donations for the completion of the construction phase of the studio apartments. The kitchen is ready to be used; with the refrigerator being the last piece missing. The apartments still need to be furnished with beds, closets and other basic furnishings. We are hoping that these apartments will be able to accommodate 80 people. Once a family is able to immigrate to another country, then another family will be invited to live in that apartment.

Comments

We at Manara International are working on various projects that aim to comfort and support as many Christian refugees as possible. Thank you for your compassion and for your friendship. You are a constant encouragement to all of us at Manara. May the God of peace be with you and those you love.

Further Update

After we finished writing the newsletter for the month of April, we heard about and met many families who were finally able to leave Iraq, Erbil, and arrive in Amman, Jordan. Some arrived with a small bag, others arrived with nothing at all.

To start a somewhat stable life here they are in great need of the most basic life provisions such as food, clothes, mattresses, beds, blankets, medicine, cooking utensils and equipment.

Please join us in prayer for these families that do not have the means to survive.

We believe with your help and support we can touch their lives with the love of Christ and give them hope for another day.

Blessings,

Manara International Team
