Update from Antonia Yalta

Dear brothers and sisters,
I am very grateful with our good God and with you because you accompany me with your prayers.

Recent Events

Retreat and Training of Segadores Missionaries with NT from Mexico

Segadores organised a training retreat for our missionaries and the subjects that they covered were:  how to work in tribal field with a multicultural team, the comprehensive care of the missionary, and the relationship with the local church.

For the first time in my life, I listened to the people start the workshops telling us about their errors in the missionary work.  This made me remember my errors that I have committed in the field. How good it was to realise that I’m not unique! We did something dynamic where we had to get together in twos and say to each other three positive things and 3 negative things. I had to do it with my companion in the work who had worked with me for many years. We said things to each other just as they are, the nice thing was that we could do it with a good attitude. I learnt a lot from the training because it focused on the bible culture not the culture of the people or the missionary.

very gratefulSchool Campaign for Orphan Children

We attended three communities with orphan children without a father, with school needs. The mothers were filled with joy and hope showing their gratefulness to Segoradores for the supplies.  Some of the little ones from the Pomporito community heard about this and the travelled 4 hours to Aoti, in heavy rain and with mud to receive their school backpacks.

Meeting in Quito with Latin American Missionaries Organised by ANM

It was a time of spiritual refuge where God with His work encouraged us to continue the career that He has called us to. To listen to everyone's ministry was challenging and to see that everyone worked for the love of Jesus.  I felt that ANM provided a comprehensive care for all of us.  I give thanks to God for all that I received from His hands!

tough timesFlooding

The rains lashed the native communities, the rivers overflowed and the houses, the ranches and the personal things of many poor people were affected. Within them were the native workers from the ethnic group of Shipiba who live on the border. Thanks to God for providing some provisions because the price of food went up in price.

Personal Stories

Adolfo Garcia

much betterAdolfo García along with his wife, Luzmila are responsible for the worship ministry in the Ashaninka church in the community of Aoti.  They have been through many difficult moments due Adolfo’s disability. To be able to afford their expenses they go to work at the ranches and have to walk on slopes which for them is very difficult. One day Adolfo’s mum told me that Adolfo’s orthopaedic leg is deteriorating and it gives him a lot of pain which on many occasions it makes him cry alone. I spoke to my team about this and I decided to visit him to see how the prosthesis was. His leg was nothing more than a piece of wood attached to the prosthesis with a construction of iron and ropes.  It was very painful to see this sad reality and I talked to the team, and we prayed to the Lord that He would guide us. God, in His grace, responded with the prosthesis and Adolfo and his wife came to Lima.

Thanks to Samuel Median who helped up make contact with people responsible for making prosthesis.

As the waiting time was 2 weeks, we took advantage of the time to take them to the beach so they could experience the sea.   When Adolfo saw the sea he said, “I can make my raft and swim here”.

We went to IACYM in Lince and they like it a lot.  Luzmila said to me, “here the brothers and sisters have a lot of love and they greet you”.  It was an interesting experience to spend these weeks with them in Lima.

Natalia Lopez

all very gratefulNatalia López, is the wife of pastor Victor Soto, from the Evangelical church in the good land of Aoti.  Six months ago, she came with a strong allergy in all of her body and did know the origin of the problem.  Our missionaries that are in the community, in coordination with the Segadores office, sent them to Lima.

Arriving in Lima they immediately took Natalia to an allergist and they did various expensive tests. Also, she had to be operated on for her adenoids and the recuperation was very slow.  We were grateful to God that the Segadores office was free and they could stay there while she recuperated.  Both Victor and Natalia as well as Adolfo and Luzmila.  We had beautiful times to learn more of God, learn about their culture and deepen a friendship with them.

Pasonke, pasonke – thank you, thank you was what Adolfo, Luzmila, Víctor and Natalia said to us when they returned to their community.  They were very grateful to God and all the brothers and sisters who were involved and helped them in their situations.  They said: “God has been with us and we have learnt more about Him because He used many people to bless them. To God be the glory.”
