The Nyamasore Water Project was started to assist elderly ladies to meet their basic needs; hygiene supplies (soap, toothpaste), food stuffs (sugar, rice, cooking oil etc), and to have access to clean water. They have been focussing on 10 families so far. Of the 10, five ladies are completely bed ridden and can no longer move out of their houses. They require a lot of assistance, love and frequent visits.
The main challenge they face in this programme is that they are reliant on the rains to fill their tanks. The rains are very seasonal which means for two months they have access to water but lack it for the rest of the year. They are planning on connecting water pipes so they have access to water all year round.
The help that comes from the water project has had a huge impact on the ladies involved. They now have consistent access to food, their hygiene has improved, and their houses are cleaner. Overall, the income they receive from the water project provides them with a better quality of life which they would not have had.
Grace has said that although the water project is assisting the elderly women in the community, the need is immense. If they had access to water all year round instead of being reliant on the rainy season they would be able to provide more consistent support.
Grace has asked for funding support to connect the water tanks to pipes so they have access to water all year round. We can see that this project is having an impact on the vulnerable, elderly women, providing them with an income to provide their basic needs, and we believe that it would further benefit this project to have access to water all year round. We are waiting on Grace to confirm the budget for this proposal.
