By God's grace we continue to serve amongst the ethnic tribes of our Amazon region, they are animalistic. The ethnic groups we work with are: Ashéninka, Junikuin, Chitonahua and Nahua, this last one is a new group that I am working with.
Their life conditions are very precarious, and they live in zones that are far away from civilisation, some of them are involved in agriculture and other work. They live under threat from big petrol and timber companies, also from the oblivion of the State and now they don't receive the necessary medical attention. For this reason, the majority of the ethnic groups are sick from advanced tuberculosis and severe malnutrition.
1) 26th March: Meeting with the Swiss missión and the visit of the MINAP group.
In March I helped with a meeting with the Mission from Switzerland in the city of Pucallpa, jointly with our missionary Marcus Dumitru, in which we shared with them about the work of Segadores that is happening in the native communities of our Amazon, and we agreed to work in cooperation and with mutual respect between both institutions. On the other hand, we made some visits including a visit to the missionary family, Tito and Idelia Pacho. At the same time, we encouraged the native workers who are working within the Junikuin ethnic group.
2) 14th April trip to Aoti: To help Zsolti with the construction. I returned on April 18th.
We should always be willing to help our colleagues in their mission field, so I was pleased to travel to assist Zsolti in building their new home in the Asháninka community of Aoti. It was a great blessing to work with our missionary Zsolti and Ester Nagy along with their two children.
3) April 22 trip to San Fausto coordination for medical equipment and loading of materials. Return May 1st.
The Lord allowed us to put ourselves in contact with a medical team of brothers from the country of Chile. They asked us if they could come to Peru with their team of doctors from different specialties, with the willingness to work in a community, one that most requires medical assistance. So, in coordination with the missionary family Dumitru, we agreed to do it in the Ashéninka community of San Fausto where our missionaries Marcus and Adina Dumitru work with their two children. To do this, we travelled from Lima to Puerto Bermúdez with Manuel Salazar. In this place, we met the missionary Marcus, and from there we continued the journey to the Ashéninka community.
We coordinated with the head of the community and the authorities, and then coordinated the work of getting the construction materials to the community. Later our brother Manuel returned to Lima and I, together with Marcus Dumitru, stayed to continue moving the wood for the construction of the bathroom and shower, because so far we only have a precarious bathroom in the forest. During this arduous work of moving more than 3,000 kgs of wood between the two, I slipped and felt a very strong pain in my waist, which was accentuated, so that my return trip to Lima was very difficult.
4) Travel to San Fausto June 17 with the medical team. Return July 1st.
The day came to return to the Ashéninka community of San Fausto to begin medical care for a week. We made this trip with Călin and Manuel Salazar to clean and prepare the place for a group of 11 people. We are thankful to God that the group worked hard caring for all the sick people. We also visited very sick people who could not attend and attended to them in their homes according to their needs.
We thank the Lord, our brothers and sisters were very blessed, and we are very happy for the great work they did in the community, because each family received the medicines they required. They were very grateful for the effort that Segadores made on their behalf.
5) Trip from September 16 to August 9 to Atalaya and San Fausto (the Ashéninka)
Faced with the need to provide greater security at our Segadores Mission Base in Atalaya, I travelled to install the perimeter fence on the Segadores property. The work was done by welding metal bars and corrugated iron sheets, thanks to God we advanced about 200 metres of the fence during a week of hard work with the team of our missionaries in Atalaya. Once the work was finished and there was no more material, I continued the trip to Pichanaki to look for an Ashéninka family from San Fausto. With God’s help I managed to locate them and advise them to remain united as a family.
The next day I continued the trip to Puerto Bermúdez, and from there to San Fausto to continue the discipleship of the people in the church. On this trip I was able to see how God is changing the lives of Eligio and his wife in particular, so in these two weeks we worked with Eligio in different ways, in the church, and also helping people in need. I truly saw a lot of dedication from Eligio and his wife in God's work. Another surprise was from the head of the community, because God put it on his heart to donate a new sound system for the church and this motivated many people to come to the church on days of worship, especially the family of the chief.
First of all, I am grateful to God for His great love, because He sustains us day by day with life and health, with the purpose of serving Him at all times and in the place that the Lord has placed us in His grace. This new year, the Lord gave me great challenges in His work, because I was able to see firsthand and hear the cry of these people groups who have not yet had the possibility to be taught the Word of God, so there is an urgency to preach the Gospel. Romans 10:15 says, "And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach peace, of those who preach good news!" For this reason, I must take advantage of the days that the Lord gives me on this earth and proclaim His Word to more people, so that He will rescue them from darkness into His marvellous light.
On the other hand, I have had to face health problems, but I am confident and secure in His mighty hands, knowing that my God holds my life in His hands until that glorious day when He will come. I ask the Lord to help me not to be frightened by the difficulties that will come in our lives. The wonderful thing is that the Lord is our faithful helper.
New challenges as a family
Until last year we have been serving the Lord as a family in the communities because our children Briana and Filip were studying from home with the Home School system, and this gave us the possibility to travel as a family to the jungle and serve. This new year we experienced a radical change, because our daughter Briana entered university, starting her studies in March in the career of Translation and Interpreting; thank God, the first semester ended well. Likewise, our son Filip began face-to-face classes at school, in the fourth year of secondary school. The Lord be glorified even in these details. May our God grant us life and health and also His provision to meet the needs along the way.
My wife's health
The Lord continues to sustain us with life and health. I give thanks for His faithfulness, because despite her health problems, my wife continues to serve God in Segadores, directing the Missionary Intercession service. Each week we gather to cry out for the different prayer requests of our missionaries and their families, as well as for the native workers of Segadores.
My wife also runs a ladies' Bible study group from the church where we congregate, but most of all, she has a big job tending and caring for our children. Thanks to my wife I am able to travel to the different native communities to teach the Word of God and disciple, modelling with my daily life among them, as well as helping, counselling and motivating them to serve God.
God continues to transform lives
I want to thank God for the life of Eligio and his wife Danixa, because since we were living in the Ashéninka community of San Fausto with my family, we had a special closeness with Eligio and his wife along with their two daughters. He was the first one who took the initiative to start the construction of the building for the church, so he has always been faithful and willing to serve God with his work, but at first it was not like that. They did not know how to pray and even less sing because they were very embarrassed, so I took him as a son and taught him to pray with me. Thank God, now we see a radical change in their lives... Praise our God.
At this time, he leads the services in the church three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). He faithfully arrives early to open the church building, and the two of them, as a family, prepare everything until the arrival of the brothers who attend. Eligio and his wife also lead praise and share God's Word, also visiting people who do not know God. For this reason, I have much to thank God for.
Next trip to the Nahua tribe
On the previous trip I managed to contact many families of a new tribe that lives within their territorial reserve in Peru, this ethnic group is called: Nahua. They are currently under the care of the Peruvian state within a territorial reserve that groups several ethnic groups in the same situation. On the trip I made, I managed to contact the great chief of this ethnic group, and with his family, so that God allowed me to make friends with the highest authority of this ethnic group, which is why I will make a trip in coordination with them to their community. I ask the Lord to allow me to share the Word of God with all the people of this community, because this will be the beginning of hard work until we are able to plant a church if the Lord allows it.
For this reason, I am making preparations to travel, even though I know that there are restrictions on entering the community. The Lord will open the doors, not only of the community, but also the hearts of the people. May it all be for His Glory.
1) Thankfulness to God for sustaining me every day.
2) For more transcultural workers, willing to live in an ethnic group.
3) For my personal health and that of my family.
4) For the economic provision for trips to the different ethnic groups.
5) For the openness of the leaders of the ethnic groups that do not yet have the Gospel.
6) May God prepare the hearts of the Nahua ethnic group, to reach them with the gospel.
7) For God’s care and protection on every trip to the isolated and Christless ethnic groups.
My gratitude and recognition to the entire Bright Hope World team, who dedicate their lives to the Lord in the service of our One God, to help us take the Good News of salvation to the ethnic groups of our Amazon. We know that if we do not work as a team, we will not be able to do the task entrusted to us by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you very much to each one of you for giving yourself to the Lord, beyond your strength.
Together in missionary work, to the ends of the earth...
