Update from Marumba Christian School

Recent Events

Activities

Currently the school has 224 children with 16 pupils in the boarding section. These are Primary seven pupils who have less than five months to do their final primary leaving examination. This means that 208 are day scholars and about 186 pupils take their breakfast and lunch at school.

The school has 14 teachers from the baby class to Primary seven with a school bursar and two cooks. Our staff, both teaching and non-teaching, are still committed to their work regardless of a number of challenges we face as a school.

In general the school has remained strong and it is growing, however like any other growing project it passes through stages of growth and development which go with challenges but we try as much as we can to handle them and maintain our growth.

It is also exciting that we have passed students who are in secondary on to other schools and wherever they went they are doing well spiritually and academically which is a good testimony for us. This is an assurance that our race is not in vain. Even though we have not seen them graduate from colleges we have much hope and are confident that the products of Marumba Christian School will continue to be “witnesses of light” just as our school motto states.

School Management

The school is running well with the good management of a few teachers whom we chose to handle the day to day running. Because I am busy putting things together here in Mbarara in terms of other projects, I looked at it as the best way of empowering some teachers in administration.

There is a good system that has been established internally and the work is much easier in terms of accountability.

Partnership's Influence within the Community

Marumba Christian School is still committed to serve less privileged children within the community. It is so great that we have got a good number of children supported by different compassion groups. I think we have about five groups and we thank God that there is that level of trust from the community. Because we are recommended by parents to those compassion groups, they help parents to pay the basic school fee which is 60,000UGX per child (approx US$17 per term). About 36 children are supported by these groups and it is because we have a good record in the community.

Current Issues and Challenges

1) There are just a few months left before the school does national and final exams
2) We have just six months remaining before our license will expire and we need to rush and acquire permanent registration
3) There is more poverty than ever before especially among ordinary people within the community
4) There are a number of requirements we need to put in place for the Ministry of Education to see before we are recommended by district education officials
5) We need to put up another water tank to have enough water for the school as the enrollment keeps increasing
6) The school land title still needs to be completed from the District Land Board

Prayer and Praise Points

1) We praise God for having kept us all in good health
2) God’s wisdom
3) That the school is still standing and serving the community
4) We praise Him for last year’s good results at our final exams
5) We have rain now but the season died out
6) We pray that our registration will complete successfully
7) An increase in funding to do more activities
8) For excellence in the forth coming exams
9) Expansion of the school and maintenance of its good reputation in the community
