Key person: Oliver Mulenga
Sadly Charles Phiri the young man Oliver was grooming last year to be more involved in the orphans program and block making suddenly passed away in 2015.
Linda (pictured) is an orphan who came through the program starting from Grade 7. She lives with her mum after her dad passed away and has a real heart for the orphans as she knows what it is like to be in their situation. She now helps Oliver with the orphans program and is employed as a sales person and bookkeeper in the block making business.
There are currently 38 orphans remaining on the program. Of these;
6 are in Grade 6
8 are in Grade 9
7 are in Grade 10
13 are in Grade 11
4 are in Grade 12
They continue to be financially assisted with school fees, uniforms, shoes and a meal every Saturday morning when they also receive extra tutoring.
The business continues to go well. Recently Oliver has invested in a new concrete pad to help make the blocks and was to begin block making again in the next week.
He is also looking at the possibility of starting another site for block making where there is a lot of construction going on. This will depend on transport to and from the site though.
Oliver still has this passion. He has started attending a new church.
Oliver and the accountant are still to come up with a program that would work for them. We will wait for them to put a proposal forward.
We will continue to graduate the current orphans off the program and no new orphans will be added.
