Key people: Faidess Cheyasu and Leonard Kapenda
Orphans Programme
Rebecca went to Chingola to get the money from the bank and to buy all the school requirements. She was helped by Faidess and Leonard. They purchased books, bags, shoes, uniforms, and other items that were then transported from Chingola town to Kamatipa village.
Rebecca was very happy to spend three weeks in Kamatipa and had a lot of time to be with the youths in the area. She was happy to say that she is seeing them growing in their faith in the Lord.
House
Faidess' new house is mostly complete now, giving her much more security of having a decent place to live. She is pictured here with Leonard, Rebecca and her daughter.
The house has two rooms, one for sleeping and one for living, plus the bathing room.
A loan has been given to her to construct the house which is being repaid quarterly by giving the funds into the Kamatipa kids orphans project. Thus far Faidess has been faithful and remains on target with these payments, meaning there are more funds for the orphan’s project.
Farming
The orphans have planted a lima (quarter hectare) of maize, and this is doing quite well. For most of Zambia there has been a significant drought, which has really affected the yields of farmers. They are thankful for the good result that they are seeing.
The orphans come on a weekly basis to help in the field, and at harvest some of the produce will be sold to help with the project costs, and some will be used to give to the orphan’s guardian families as food supplies.
With some of the funds gained from the sale of maize, they are intending to buy some popcorn after harvest, and to hold and store it for a length of time until the price goes higher. They will then sell for a profit, again to help with funds for the project.
