Activity Report from Chaba

The thing I love about writing reports is that it allows me to 'talk' to many people I will never personally meet. The same thought cautions me to be careful on what I write about.

Recent Events

Farming Seminar 2017

Words will never match our gratitude to BHW for what they have done to Chaba community. We once again received funding to hold a farming seminar. We trained people in rice, maize and cassava. We also had a review of how the previously trained folks faired in 2016/17 farming season.

20 people were trained in cassava growing and cassava sticks were promised to be given to them. We assigned each previously trained farmer to assist one new farmer. They too were told to do the same next year. I think we will double the number to 40 since we are going to have many people with the seed needed.

As we agreed, those that were trained in maize and rice will be assisted with micro-loans of K400 and K300 respectively so that they will be able to buy the agriculture inputs needed. Funds for this is secured. One third of the loan repayments will go towards this.

Harvest Report

I am happy to report that the 2016/17 farming season was by far the best farming season for our farmers. The average of 40 bags per lima was recorded (this equates to 8 ton per hectare which is an amazing yield). It was double the bags from the 2015/16 farming season. Rice average was 16 bags per lima. This was great indeed.

The good news is that farmers have been self-motivated to grow more. The harvest has really inspired them to work harder. This is very humbling to me and all the more praise to God and indeed to BHW.

Discipleship Course

I am happy to report to you that the Chaba discipleship training programme phase one was completed. The programme went very well. 22 people graduated from the programme and received their certificates.

As I reported earlier, when we start phase two, all the four past students who graduated from this programme will have a class in their churches.

I will be teaching practical courses that have been identified. These are the courses the students requested and they are:
- Bible interpretation
- Preaching
- Business Entrepreneurship
- Biblical counselling

As I go to Chaba for these courses, I will have a good time to monitor how the past students wil be fairing in their teachings.

Plans for the Future

May I take this opportunity to thank BHW for approving my rice buying project proposal (see previous report). Thank you very much. I promise to work hard and achieve the objectives. I am very positive that this project will further motivate the farmers to grow more and more rice.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
