Report Date: September 28, 2016

GLO News September 2016

principalWe stand today thanking God for bringing us this far, guiding and providing for us. Indeed ‘They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings like eagles, they shall walk & not faint’… we are not fainting but rejoicing and learning always.

It is encouraging in our team and work to see everyone realising the vision of discipleship and the amount of work in our land of Zambia and the world over. So far we have applied ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit and thus are experiencing extreme joy in fulfilling what God has called and allowed us to do for this year.

May we all be strengthened in what we do and not forget what God has done for us and how He continues to equip us for ministry and in our personal lives. We should not hesitate to recognise His leading and realise in all we do that it is God’s work. It is all about Him and hope we can be proud to raise our banner of Ebenezer!

Thank you for your prayers and financial support. God is at work and we have to keep our eyes open for His leading. God bless you and your ministries.

David Lukama

Camp Reality

lots of funOur work and love for the young people continues and after much thought and a run through our various programs for young people, we introduce to you Camp Reality.

This is a weeks’ school camp for various schools. We have been working with schools in the past years teaching and getting involved in various Christian activities in the schools. But with our Camp Reality, schools are bringing their students to GLO for a week of camping, learning and doing physical ventures for development and learning. With Camp Reality the school puts Camp Reality Venture in their school activity program. Camp Reality challenges students spiritually, mentally, socially and with leadership skills. Our first Camp Reality was done at the beginning of August with Nchanga Trust School from Chingola. We had 57 students from two Grade 11 classes.

lots of funThey all participated well in the various activities planned and at the end of the week we saw growth and development in the lives of the young people. It is always a joy when young people realise who they are and whose they are. With the spiritual activities we did an awareness of God is introduced to the young people.

We value prayer as we develop the Camp Reality program. We have many plans underway and right now are working on our infrastructure at the GLO centre. We pray for manpower and volunteers for the program.

Camp Reality comprises of all aspects of one’s life for growth being spiritual, physical, mental and social. For mental and physical activities we ran a few days physical expedition with the students at a Reality Campsite. Here they were challenged with physical and mental survival skills and fears were faced. Each person is assigned to a mentor who walks with them as they participate in the various activities presented at Camp Reality.

2016 GAP Year

great time

We had a wonderful time with the Gap Year students and June marked the end of six months. It is an exciting time at the end of six months. We again this year noticed lots of change in the lives of the young people that God allowed us to work with this year.

We are in prayer for many to find places in University and College. We are in prayer too especially for a few that are still in the process of finding their feet and getting to know who they are.

We now look forward to the coming year and to meeting the students that God has set for us in 2017. We continue for the rest of this year with our Detached Youth Work Program in our Kaniki Community and Zambia at large.

Mission Awareness

sharing good newsOur mission team has been busy visiting and sharing the love of God in different places. On one of the visits done this year we visited one of our GLO past students from the Discipleship Course. Beatrice Chisapo, who lives and serves in Mankanda Village in North Western Province of Zambia, was visited at the beginning of July. She is working with the brethren church in Mankanda Village but helps in community work and is often a midwife in the village. The village has young mothers of 16 and 17 and she helps out in different cases. One sad thing in the village is how many villagers are suspicious and bound with fear of witchcraft. The mission team was involved in many spiritual warfare prayers and reassuring the community with the love of God. One night was spent showing the Jesus film and many in this village appreciated it and asked lots of questions.

We have a few more trips before the end of the year; one to Kazungula boarder in the Southern Province and Mbala North Western Province of Zambia. Please pray for the teams who are ready to explore and go out to share the Good News of the Lord Jesus.

Church Based Training

lots of interestThe pilot program in Ndola has continued with good numbers in attendance and many interested. We thank God for the strength to move on and wisdom to teach what is relevant to the church today.

Pray for our teacher, Mr Timothy Kaimba, who is very much involved and dedicated to see the work continue in Ndola. The exciting news is that we have a number of people that have volunteered to help in the work now.

The church based training has been launched in Kitwe and Mufulira now and it looks promising after the launch two weeks ago. We are keeping a close watch on both towns to see how this new town develops.

Please pray for our volunteer teachers/helpers. These are not full time workers but have volunteered their services to teaching and helping out in the church based program. These are good teachers of the Word of God and are culturally aware of traditions in many Zambian set up. It is such a relief to tap into these gifted men of God.

Chililabombwe is next on the list of towns to begin the teaching.

The work of the Lord is growing and we value prayer especially in many towns of Zambia that would value the teachings.

Staff Update

The GLO-Zambia family is doing well and enjoying serving together. It is such a joy to have a big family eager and willing to serve the Lord. All are keeping well and the Lord has continued to bless us with more people.

April Sylvester

volunteerApril is from the USA and is volunteering for a year. She comes after finishing her studies in Cultural Anthropology and having been twice to Zambia for her practise felt led to come back and serve the Lord full time at GLO. She has joined GLO-Zambia to help in community youth work.

She loves interacting and playing volleyball with the young people from the nearby community. She is excited and looks forward to meeting more young people in Zambia.

April is a Christian who is ready to share the love of God with many in Zambia and in spite of the language barrier she is very much willing to adapt and learn more of the Zambian culture. Her joining the team is a real blessing and encouragement bringing new energy and more creative ideas to the ministry.

New Volunteers

new volunteersWith developments in the Church Based Training we have a team of new volunteers specifically to help in this ministry. We have on this team Mulenga Tambusha, Chanda Wilson, Mulubwa Obed, Kapinga Peter, Mwaku Richard, Kashingwa Dennis, Charles Nyangwali and Maxiwel Dimus Kalobwe.

Please pray for our work with the volunteers involved. It is very helpful to have these men and women realise and get involved in work. May God help us as we work together for His glory.

Dick Mumba

At the end of this year we will have more new faces on the team as Mr Dick Mumba and his family join the GLO team. He will be involved in the missions and entrepreneurship departments of GLO. Mr Mumba has been working with YWAM in Chipata, Eastern Province of Zambia.

Simon & Mahongo Banda

new callSimon and Mahongo are leaving GLO by November. The Bandas have been involved in GLO work for 17 years now, serving full time. Simon has been involved in teaching, accounts and mentoring students. He is also a leader at his church. Up until three years ago Mahongo was teaching and mentoring especially the female students at GLO. More recently she has been involved part-time, teaching and helping out where she could.

The Bandas have felt the Lord calling them to move from GLO Ndola to Kitwe to pastor the church of Nkana East Chapel in Kitwe. They are thanking and praising God for the opportunity to serve God at GLO and have been involved in many aspects of discipleship and making a difference in many lives.

Please pray for the Bandas as they make this transition from GLO.

Plans for the Future

We have two mission trips planned;
1) Mbala Ladies Trip on 12-17 October to Northern Province of Zambia. This is the first of its kind with women going on a five day trip to another province for evangelism, teaching and mission exposure.

2) Another mission trip to Kazungula is happening at the end of September (29th Sept -3rd Oct). This will involve evangelism, youth and childrens works. Everyone is welcome for this one. The team is excited about visiting the Kazungula border. This is a small town in the Southerrn Province of Zambia where you have the quadripoint of four countries - Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe & Namibia.

Please pray with us as we also look forward to our youth camps;
1) GLO, in conjunction with Ndola District Youths (CMML), have planned a Bemba Youth Camp from 4th-6th November 2016. We will look at the theme ‘4 Important Networks in Life'.

2) 5th-10th December is the GLO December Youth Camp with the theme ‘Take a Selfie’. This camp is not limited to youth from Ndola town only but the whole of Zambia. Our camp will be more on challenging young people from 1 Tim 4:16 regarding taking stock of ones life. It will challenge the faith stand and beliefs of our young people and all who will attend this camp.

The Last Advance Leadership Course is happening on 7-11 November.
