Recent Events

Nguluni Countryside Education Centre

Some changes have been recorded:

- The school block has been painted and renovation is going on.
- There has been a gradual increase in population up to 192 learners now of which we hope and trust God for more.
- The school bus seats and door have been changed to suit the requirements of the Kenya Government Transport Authority and now it is comfortable for the pupils. We thank God it was successful and it looks better now. 

Green Houses: We thank Bright Hope World for the funds sent for the greenhouses. The two greenhouse kits were done at Ksh.639,500. The two nursery kits were successfully installed and the nursery beds already have seedlings. Transplanting of the seedlings is almost due (about 7 days from now). Training of four members by Amiran took place and the trained members are taking charge of the project. 

Spiritual: We have weekly Bible studies for the children and workers through a pastoral program conducted by brethren here. This year in April we had a Vocational Bible School and we were blessed to have brethren from the UK, Mr and Mrs Samuel Clark, who participated with us in the one week seminar. Glory be to God because a number of children (7) gave their lives to Jesus Christ. We had about 60 kids participating in the VBS. We hope to reach more children and workers with the gospel of Jesus Christ through the school. 

Challenges:
1) Food insecurity: Due to the hiking prices of food (almost 4 times) and the bad weather conditions the situation is dire and almost all the funds being collected from the school fees are used to cater for food. We are expecting good returns from the greenhouses in due course.

2) Greenhouse: The greenhouse installation cost far beyond our expectations since the piping, fencing and preparation of the field was not included in the initial amount. The supply of water to the greenhouse is not sufficient due to the small capacity tanks. We need a big capacity tank to supply enough water to the greenhouse for efficiency. 

3) Power supply: We have had issues of power shortages in this area which has led to inefficiency in various areas like the water pump, school learning activities in the evening, and lighting the entire school. We therefore plan to install a 3-phase generator or a solar panel. 

Pona Dispensary

We thank the Almighty God for the distance we have come. We have been doing well and are grateful for the support accorded to us. 

We have been able to construct a new set of modern washrooms, expanded and renovated our ward for male patients, as well as putting ceiling and ceramic tiles. This cost a total of Ksh492,746 to do the project and construction of an incinerator is still going on. Thanks to the Revolving Fund (KEN03c) and Nguluni table banking for a loan of Ksh180,000 which enabled us to continue with the project. 

Challenges:
1) Roofing: The old roofing system needs to be changed for it has been leaking during the rainy season and this has led to destruction of the ceiling and chipping off of the wall paint. 

2) Staff: We have not been able to retain staff for longer periods of time due to them being employed by the government where they are highly paid. 

3) Food: Due to the high cost of food, goods have been expensive in the market. The clients being served in the facility are of the middle class and some are now not able to pay for the services they receive.  

Therefore we need prayer and support.   

Committee

The committee has continued to give guidance in the running of projects. The local committee is charged with the responsibility of the day to day running while the Board provides the oversight.

Isaac is doing well with his family and we thank God that his wife, Eunice Mumo, successfully enrolled to the Kenya Medical Training College Makueni campus where she will be pursuing a diploma course in Registered Community Health Nursing and Midwifery for a period of three and a half years. This will be great since she will be able to assist in running the dispensary when she clears her studies. 

Francisca is doing well with her family but needs prayer as climate change and the high cost of living is affecting their business of ballast due to floods and it is their only source of income.
